If we were going to guess two adjectives for Lauren Conrad‘s wedding look, they would have been “simple” and “classic.” And she didn’t disappoint. The designers behind her custom wedding gown, Mark Badgley and James Mischka, created a dress for the star that they described as (you guessed it) “simple and classic yet glamorous” — and now they’re sharing a glimpse at the creative process behind her wedding gown, which was signature LC.

For the romantic sunset wedding at a Santa Ynez, California winery, Conrad donned the lace column complete with a long train and buttons up the back, plus a simple gold leaf tiara in her hair. To create the one-of-a-kind Badgley Mischka number for the lifestyle mogul, the two designers collaborated closely with Conrad, creating an inspiration board that featured multiple kinds of lace, beading and tulle, delicate floral accents, a few photos of Conrad (both in angelic white lace and all glammed-up for a photoshoot) and a handful of snapshots of the ultimate bridal inspiration: Grace Kelly.

“I was so thrilled to have Mark and James work on my dress,” Conrad said in a press release. “Not only have I been a longtime fan of their designs and aesthetic, they are also the nicest guys. They were so sweet and made the process really enjoyable. I love my dress.” Adds the design duo, “We were delighted when Lauren asked if we would design her wedding gown. Lauren embodies a young, modern, and sophisticated style that is the type of woman we love to design for.”

Her gown fits perfectly with her pre-wedding bridal style (remember her shower dress?) but is a little surprising when you consider her top 25 gown picks from earlier this year.
