Laura Prepon is probably best known for her turn as redheaded Donna on That ’70s Show – so was she hesitant to ditch those famous locks for another role?
Not at all, she says.
“I like to be able to transform into my characters, and this character was totally rockabilly badass,” Prepon, 33, tells PEOPLE of her role as a drug-running criminal in the new Netflix original series, Orange is the New Black.

“Honestly, it’s cool,” she says. “I’ve never had black hair before. It’s great to be able to have a whole different look.”
But that doesn’t mean she was sticking with the darker shade now that filming has ended — she was sporting her signature strands at the show’s N.Y.C. premiere Wednesday. The reason? “Now I’m back to me, which feels really good.”
