For all we know, Kurt Cobain bought the green sweater he wore during his 1993 appearance on MTV's "Unplugged" at a thrift store for under $10.
Twenty-two years later, that now iconic cardigan is expected to fetch up to $60,000 in a live auction, which opens Nov. 7.
The size medium, Manhattan brand sweater (which is a "blend of acrylic, mohair and Lycra") is missing one button and has a a burn hole and some discoloration near the left pocket and on the right pocket. The item is being sold on Julien's Auctions and was obtained by a "close friend of the Cobain family."
Anyone willing to possibly shell out $60,000 large for a piece of music history will also receive a signed letter of authenticity.
Those looking for a more intimate (and grosser) keepsake from the Nirvana frontman's legacy can bid on a real lock of his blond tresses, which was originally given to a dollmaker by Cobain's wife, Courtney Love, for their daughter Frances. Bidding starts at $4,000, but Julien's anticipates someone out there will probably spend up to $10,000 on the 10-inch lock of hair.
Also up for auction are a Platinum record plaque for "Nevermind" and a Gold record plaque for "In Utero" that are expected to fetch around $500 each.
These items are only the low side of prices when it comes to Cobain memorabilia. Previously, a smashed guitar that once belonged to Cobain was sold for $100,000 in 2008, while a collector paid $131,000 at a 2006 auction for the late rock star's Mosrite Gospel Mark IV guitar.
