Kim Kardashian's $3.2 billion-valued brand Skims has made TIME100's Most Influential Companies of 2023 issue. Naturally, as the founder of the coveted shapewear label and fit model for the underwear, Kardashian stars on the cover, which was lensed by Dana Scruggs and hits newsstands Friday, June 23. Kardashian, 42, is styled in keeping with her usual aesthetic, which typically involves formfitting silhouettes, a neutral color palette, and some striking cutouts or a polarizing trend.
Sporting a latex bodysuit and leather gloves up top, the all-black outfit only gets edgier from there, with the addition of a multi-cutout croc-effect maxi skirt that accentuates her hourglass figure and features 15 oversize buckles framing each sliver of skin down the side. Kardashian wears textured, pointed-toe booties with a heavily lined lip, golden-brown eyeshadow, and peach blush. Her sleek, dark hair is parted at the center and curled at the ends. In a separate photo, she poses with a group of models in varying shades of the Skims sculpting midthigh bodysuit, connecting back to the origin of the brand idea: "It started off with simply finding shapewear that was a skin tone that would match my color. I used to take my shapewear and dye it with tea bags and coffee in the bathtub," she told Time.
CEO and cofounder of Skims Jens Grede talks about working with Kardashian in the feature, which also announces the men's underwear collection coming later this year in the fall, marketed around athletes and musicians. "To be a successful creative director today, you've got to have a point of view of the world. You've got to have a very clear aesthetic that is identifiable to you, and you've got to be able to intimately understand popular culture," he said, confirming that the reality TV star-turned-entrepreneur is well-equipped in this area. She cast Ice Spice in a campaign after daughter North introduced her to the rapper, and she estimates she has tried on more than 7,000 items to make sure they stay true to her personal sense of style, a detail fans have come to expect. In this way, she maintains the business integrity and ethos of Skims.
In April, Kardashian wore a sheer suit by Rick Owens to speak at the Time 100 Summit. In a decidedly more bold look, she attended the annual Parsons Benefit in New York City in May wearing a cobalt blue Balmain two-piece with a waist-skimming body chain.
