Skims is officially a CFDA award winner. The brand will receive the first-ever innovation award presented by Amazon Fashion at the 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards, which will be held on Nov. 7. Skims founders Kim Kardashian, Emma Grede, and Jens Grede will be present to accept the award in person at the ceremony.
"Fashion relies on true visionaries to push the envelope and propel our industry forward," CFDA CEO Steven Kolb said in a statement. "With Skims, Kim, Emma, and Jens have pioneered new technology in the process of reinventing the concept of solutions-oriented shapewear. Together with our CFDA Fashion Awards partner Amazon Fashion, which is a continuous innovator on behalf of customers, the CFDA is incredibly proud to honor Skims with the inaugural Innovation Award."
The shapewear and clothing company was cofounded in June 2019 and recently expanded to include swimwear and bras. It's celebrated for its innovative fabrics and inclusive sizing - and it's valued at $3.2 billion, according to Vogue Business.
Besides viral fan favorites like its cozy knit set and long slip dress, Skims produces ads that regularly break the internet, from its sultry lingerie shoot with Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian Barker to its throwback campaign with former Victoria's Secret models like Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks. But no one is a more dedicated spokesperson for Skims than Kardashian herself, who regularly poses on Instagram in the brand's thong bodysuits, sports bras, silver bikinis, and catsuits.
The CFDA plans to honor Lenny Kravitz with the 2022 fashion icon award; Law Roach with the inaugural stylist award; and the United Nations with the environmental sustainability award. It will also pay tribute to Virgil Abloh, acknowledging his tremendous impact on the American fashion industry at large.
