Kendall Jenner has remained silent on outrage stemming from a controversial Pepsi commercial she headlined, but a source close to the family tells PEOPLE there’s no chance she’s brushing it off.
“Kendall would have been absolutely mortified,” says the source of the model’s reaction. (On Wednesday, Pepsi decided to pull the ad following intense backlash and accusations of appropriating civil rights and protest movements to sell soda.)
“Anything offensive is just not her,” continues the source. “She means well, always.”
According to the insider, 21-year-old Kendall turns to momager Kris Jenner, 61, in times of crisis.
“She would have called Kris SO upset and freaking out,” explains the source. “And then Kris would go into mom mode and approach it like, ‘Let’s do something about this, NOW.’ “

Following the criticism, both Kendall and Kris deleted their tweets related to the commercial. Kendall’s throwback photo of Cindy Crawford, who previously starred in her own global Pepsi campaign, is the only related tweet still on her page.

Pepsi apologized to the reality star in a statement announcing their decision to take down the ad.
“Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding. Clearly we missed the mark, and we apologize,” read the statement. “We did not intend to make light of any serious issue. We are pulling the content and halting any further rollout. We also apologize for putting Kendall Jenner in this position.”
