Julianne Hough's DWTS Photo Diary: Week Two Is Sparkly, High-Slit and Oh-So-Sexy

In this week’s installment of her exclusive behind-the-scenes photo diary for PEOPLE, DWTS judge Julianne Hough is bringing plenty of sparkle, thanks to a gorgeous Jenny Packham dress (and the help if her glam squad, stylist Anita Patrickson, makeup artist Spencer Barnes and hairstylist Riawna Capri).

Pick up this week’s issue of PEOPLE for much more on the star’s behind-the-scenes beauty routine, and be sure to check out her just-launched lifestyle site, JulianneHough.com! She promises it will be “a space where women feel empowered to be their true selves. I want to be an infectious light of love and joy and celebrate the little things and to inspire others to embrace that sense of who they are,” so we’re already huge fans.

Hough didn’t stray too far from her glitter-encrusted dancer “roots” in this super-sparkly Jenny Packham gown (a favorite designer of hers). “Jenny Packham is the ‘go to’ for elegant, beaded dresses,” she says. “Her gowns are so classic and chic yet they make you feel so sexy. I cannot think of one occasion I wouldn’t want to wear Jenny Packham to!” (She also had to snap a shot with dogs Lexi and Harley – after all, it was National Puppy Day yesterday!)

Stylist Patrickson obviously concurs, since she often brings out the designer’s dresses for her client. “Julianne and I both fell in love with this dress early on in our fitting. We had a Sharon Stone in Casino moment when it was all put together and the earrings went in! Total glam!” she says, adding that the Kurt Geiger heels and Henri Sillam jewels finished the look to perfection. “The biggest challenge was to keep it fashion forward, and Spencer’s pop of orange on the lip did just that.”

Capri kept the star’s hair relatively simple with a sleek blowout, which meant that Barnes brought the heat with that spicy orange lip shade (courtesy of NARS satin lip pencil in Timanfaya). “We had fun honing this look as a team. Originally the lip was lighter but we opted for dialing up the orange tone to finesse Julianne’s look into the fashion realm,” he says. “We popped on on some lashes for some added drama and definition with the smoky eye effect.”

Though the Casino inspiration lent itself to a “sexy, dangerous, sophisticated” vibe, Barnes and Patrickson say this look can translate into real life. “Be sure to tone down your look (for everyday life) with a casual piece, be it a leather jacket or a chambray shirt as well as easy, no fuss hair and makeup,” Patrickson advises. And Barnes says the makeup can be done as long as you balance your tones. “When you do a darker eye, sometimes you have to turn up the skin and warm up the tone with slightly deeper foundation and bronzer to keep the look from going ‘heroin chic.’ Unless that’s your intention, of course!”
