Looks like Beyoncé isn’t the only diva with a big hair reveal this month. At the VMAs Sunday night, Jennifer Hudson took the stage in a cute, asymmetrical crop.
After walking the red carpet in the long, banged do she most often wears for special occasions, the star switched it up for her surprise appearance with Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Mary Lambert to help sing the chorus to their hit “Same Love.” And she’d traded in her long, flowing hair for a punkier chin-length bob with a deep side part, which was longer in the front and shorter in the back.

There was some debate around the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices whether she was showing off a new short cut or just rocking a different wig, but in the end we concluded that she looks adorable with the shorter do — it shows off her great bone structure and pretty eyes and updates her look quite a bit. So whether it’s her hair or just her hair for the night, we vote that she keep it in rotation.
