J Lo and Selena Gomez Pull Off the Same '60s Minidress Trend 14 Years Apart

While most of today's nostalgic trends center around the '90s and 2000s, Selena Gomez stood out from the rest in a '60s-inspired look, which she pulled off with the help of her longtime stylist Kate Young. For a Rare Beauty event in London on July 12, Gomez made an appearance in a Victor Glemaud fit-and-flare dress with bell sleeves and a square neckline.

The 29-year-old singer accessorized with Self-Portrait's white patent top-handle bag that comes affixed with an ornamental gold bow. She played up the hardware on her purse with Jennifer Fisher hoop earrings and wore metallic blue pointed-toe PVC heels with a rhinestone-embellished ankle strap on her feet.

The full look brought to mind another celebrity style moment courtesy of Jennifer Lopez. The pop star wore a similar outfit inspired by the '60s while out with Marc Anthony at the Waverly Inn in New York in 2008. Lopez's flowing minidress featured the same yellow tone, and she added white accessories and gold hoops as well.

Both outfits evoke a Megan Draper-inspired retro flair, an aesthetic that will surely become more popular in the months to come. Though Lopez and Gomez's ensembles were worn nearly 14 years apart, they're both evident of fashion's cyclical nature and proof that dynamic trends will always feel timeless.

Gomez's '60s-inspired outfit can also be interpreted as a nod to her character Mabel in "Only Murders in the Building." Mabel often wears Jennifer Fisher hoop earrings like Gomez's. And Mabel sports similar yellow hues in the Gomez-produced Hulu series to make a powerful statement. "The marigold color that we use throughout the show represents Mabel's Mexican-American heritage - it's a symbol of grief and resurrection, as well as passion and creativity, all of which fit Mabel perfectly," costume designer Dana Covarrubias previously told POPSUGAR.

Ahead, catch more glimpses of Gomez's '60s-inspired outfit and shop the look.
