How To Get Flapper Girl Hair

Everyone is going gaga for Baz Luhrmannn's film remake of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, "The Great Gatsby." But we're more excited to see all of the 1920s-inspired beauty looks, especially the flapper girl hair.

Defined by its distinct finger wave pattern, this '20s hairstyle looked stunning on both short and long-haired ladies. And we love how it has evolved throughout the years, as stars like Nicole Richie, Rihanna and Ginnifer Goodwin have sported the sophisticated 'do on the red carpet.

In the video above, Aussie-born hairstylist and Blow Bar founder Emma Rees shows us how to get flapper girl hair. You'll need: a clipless curling iron, hair clips, bobby pins, hairspray and a vintage-inspired headband.

First, section the crown into a triangle shape with a defined side part. Wrap hair around the curling wand, moving in a forward direction and securing each curl with a pin. Then, curl the remainder of the head (no need to pin down). Remove hair clips from top and brush hair into a S-wave pattern. Smooth the side of the hair and place pin curl clips to hold it down.

For long hair, gather strands into a low ponytail, twist into a faux bob and pin up. Spritz on a medium-hold hairspray and remove pin curl clips from front. To complete the look, add a stretchy headband just above the eyebrows as they did in the '20s.

What do you think about this flapper-inspired hairstyle?

Add some pizazz to your '20s waves:
