When it comes to our personal makeup routines, it's easy to get stuck doing the same old thing. So we brought a real expert on the show to help us out. Fatima Thomas is a veteran MAC Cosmetics makeup artist with over 20 years experience. Is 12 too young for makeup?
Makeup use should be a personal thing, a choice each individual makes. But as a parent, watching a "tween" daughter use makeup excessively crosses a few lines. "As a kid, I was always obsessed with makeup," Fatima admits, so she can definitely identify with how a young girl can feel. But her advice is to "strike a deal" with the overusing party. "Let her play at home, fulfill that need in the comfort of the home," suggests Fatima. It may be best not to cut her off completely - "Let her start wearing some lip products, some light, sheer things." But there may come a day when you don't have as much control, and for advice on what to say, I'll turn to someone notable in my life. When my sister and I asked our father if we could use makeup, he'd say to us, "bite your lips and pinch your cheeks, nature gave you all the color you need!"
