Julia Roberts‘ super-smooth, strawberry-blonde banged crop in Mother’s Day got people talking almost immediately, but there’s one unanswered question that was haunting us: Why did we have such strong déja vu about this bob?

The answer? Because she’s worn this exact wig before, in Notting Hill, and it’s just been sitting on a shelf for 17 years waiting for for the right time to rewear it. (A Mother’s Day source confirms to PEOPLE that it’s the same wig, out for a second spin.)
Wait, you’re saying. Roberts has long, straight layers in Notting Hill. Ah, but lest you forget, she plays a movie star in that film, and this sleek, straight, short wig makes a brief appearance in Helix, one of her movies-within-a-movie. You know, the one where she plays an astronaut.

So why did this particular wig make a resurgence? Roberts isn’t spilling details on how she made the decision or where she kept it stored since 1999, but she did tell PEOPLE that her Mother’s Day look was purposefully low-maintenance.

“I’ve heard a lot about my look in the movie,” Roberts said at the film’s L.A. premiere. “There’s a lot of interpretation about my look. I wish I could’ve put that much thought into it. It was kind of, like, quick putting it together.”
