Gwyneth Paltrow has received a lot of flak for her sometimes out-there, slightly-unnecessary items promoted on her lifestyle site, Goop.com. We’re even guilty of it from time to time. (Sorry Gwyn!) But rather than shut down the naysayers, she’s continuing to do her thing by taking her latest collaboration to new high-fashion heights with a little help from Valentino.

The Goop chief creative officer is teaming up with Valentino’s design team, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, for a Wonder Woman-inspired collection that’s set to include 25 starburst-emblazzoned pieces ranging in clothing to accessories and footwear. And in true Goop form, they cost a small fortune. Leather jackets retail for $10,500, tulle dresses check in at $8,900 and leather bracelets are available for a cool $275.
The collaboration is set to launch in her up-coming N.Y.C. pop-up store and online starting November 23, which marks the first time she’s presented a store in the city. “One would think New York City would be the first location for a pop-up, and that is precisely why we waited,” Paltrow told WWD. “What started as an experiment has become a viable business for us. We wanted to get the New York City location operating at another level, which it will be, from a design and merchandising standpoint.”
The space is set to have a vibe of “downtown, uptown with handmade custom furniture and accessories that create unexpected juxtapositions.” Which will be a bit of a different vibe than her L.A. “shabby-chic design” decor, the modern Southern charm in Dallas and swanky Waldorf Astoria hotel in Chicago.

So why the focus on the comic book character? Aside from being a favorite TV show of Paltrow’s growing up, her and the designers see the icon as a great inspiration for women in this day of age. “All women are in some way Wonder Woman because they have to think about the job, about the kids, about the husband,” Chiuri said. “Our idea was to do something some that can play with fashion and pieces that are a little punk and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll in attitude. It helps women mix together things that can be fine and fun.”

Paltrow told the New York Times, “To me, it’s a fantastic and resonant idea because everybody is working, having kids, trying not to miss a soccer game while at the same time being on a conference call. The modern woman is a wonder woman.”
