Kate Hudson just hit the Golden Globes red carpet with a brand new shoulder-grazing lob. And her hairstylist, David Babaii, ghd Brand Ambassador, told us exactly what went down.

“I cut off all of her hair,” Babaii tells PeopleStyle of Hudson’s fresh chop. “We cut off seven inches, I measured it. It’s a really modern, jagged, crazy kind of cut.”

Babaii, who began working with Hudson for the Golden Globes 14 years ago, says that when he saw her dress, he knew that her hair “needed to be modern, with a little bit of chaos.” But that’s not the only change Hudson made for the event — Babaii shares that he also “made her go blonder” to pull the look together.
Hudson shared an inside look at Babaii giving her a trim on Snapchat yesterday, but when he began getting her ready today, he said, “Let’s go for it” — and gave her a “combination of Sharon Stone in Casino and Kim Basinger in 9 1/2 Weeks.”

Babaii then styled her cut to create loose, textured waves. He applied Pai-Shau Biphasic Infusion to hydrate her hair, followed by Pai-Shau Royal Abundance Mousse to add structure, and then blew it out before adding piecey waves with GHD’s Platinum Styler Flat Iron.
