Florence Welch Cut Fringe From Givenchy Dress at Met Ball After-Party

And the punkiest of them all — Florence Welch! When faced with an unwieldy gown at the Met Ball at NYC's Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6, the lead singer of Florence and the Machine did what any hot-blooded, fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants rock star would do: She decided to simply cut the dress — even if said dress is a Givenchy gown.

Welch, already well-known for donning edgy fashion, hit the red carpet of the star-studded event in a full-length black gown with thigh-high slit down the middle and leather fringe that started at the arms and hung all the way to the floor. Peep-toe knee-high boots completed the eccentric ensemble. The singer's look, while leaning toward Goth, definitely fit the night's "PUNK: Chaos to Couture" theme.

A source tells Us Weekly that Welch's wardrobe malfunction started at the Met Ball after-party at the Standard Hotel. Welch had a difficult time walking through the lobby when the fringe on her gown got ensnared on the chairs. "She was dragging chairs with her as she walked and seemed very flustered," the source says. "People started to help her untangle from them."

Frustrated by their efforts, Welch and her companions decided to simply snip away at the dress. "[They] were fed up with it and they decided to cut the dress a little right there! Cut it shorter so that she could make her way up to the party and have a good time." Now that's punk!
