Double-amputee Olympian Oscar Pistorius sobbed into his hands during a court appearance today as the prosecution announced it would seek to prove the murder of his girlfriend was premeditated. Pistorius is accused of shooting 30-year-old Reeva Steenkamp four times with a 9mm at his home in South Africa, but said in a statement, "The alleged murder is disputed in the strongest terms."
The mother of an ex-girlfriend took to Facebook, as they do, to voice her thoughts on the case, the AP reports. "I am so glad that Sammy is safe and sound and out of the clutches of that man," wrote Trish Taylor, whose daughter Samantha dated the man known as "Blade Runner" before Steenkamp. "There were a few occasions where things could have gone wrong with her and his gun during the time they dated. My condolences to the family whose daughter has passed away. My heart breaks for you." Pistorius has gone on record about his affinity for firearms.
"Oscar has such a way with women. She's probably not the only one he's got," Samantha told the press after their relationship ended. "Oscar is certainly not what people think he is."
But another ex voiced her support, in hashtag form:
In his own statement, Pistorious said he "would like to send his deepest sympathies to the family of Reeva."
