While it’s true that all the bright gowns on the Emmys red carpet Sunday night certainly turned our heads, it was a much subtler shade that ended up being the most-loved dress color of the evening. Call it petal, shell, blush or rose, this hue was worn by many of our favorite stars — including a few we couldn’t even fit in the photo!

From left, January Jones does her modern-Grace-Kelly thing in custom Givenchy; Cobie Smulders picks the perfect pale base for some seriously awesome hair in her fitted J. Mendel; Rose Byrne shows a slice of stomach in a Calvin Klein Collection design; Julie Bowen goes surprisingly girlie in a flouncy Zac Posen gown; and her TV daughter Ariel Winter selects a baby pink Lorena Sarbu number. Also in the pale shade but not pictured above: Carrie Preston, Alfre Woodard, Ireland Baldwin, Jewel … you get the picture.
And since dressing in gradations of carnation doesn’t exactly scream “sex kitten,” the actresses unsurprisingly kept things lovely and ladylike with retro-glam waves or soft updos, and chose coordinating shades of pale pink lipstick to complete the look.
