The Daily News wrote: "Rihanna snuggles with Chris Brown; ring sparks engagement rumors." MSN offered: "RiRi's Grammys ring might mean she's engaged — or that she likes rings." Meanwhile, tweeters sent their congratulations or utter disgust into the ether. But today, E! explains Neil Lane generously lent Rihanna $2 million worth of jewelry to complete her look, including "20-carat platinum and diamond drop earrings, a platinum and diamond serpentine bracelet, and platinum and diamond rings."

One was the purported engagement ring.
