Astrology GIFs for the Week of November 9, 2015

A brooding and passionate Scorpio new moon looms on the horizon on hump day. The power of this Scorpio moon taps into our primal ability to be self-determined and how we honor the integrity of what we hold dear with our actions, not idle words. In other words, you have to be ready to put some shit on the line.

And yeah, that's a pretty daunting prospect. Nothing happens without risk.We all fear that when we put ourselves out there, figurative bullets could fly to shoot down our dreams or ideas. No worries — this moon gives you the power to recognize that even when darkness rises,  light and support are nearby (some call this perspective). As a sign of bold Mars, Scorpio prompts us to, as Rudyard Kipling put it (minus the sexism), take both triumphs and disaster and treat those two impostors the same. Allow this new moon to pave a way from deep within to new heights.

The planetary weather report: Use these guidelines to unlock the stars, not to be locked down by them.

Although there’s not much brewing in the skies as big as Wednesday’s new moon, Mars, the Most Valuable Planet for Scorpio, shifts into Libra to follow Venus’s entry last week. Mars in Libra is a study in irony. The warrior planet has to play nice in peacenik Libra and is frankly uncomfortable. This usually plays out in loads of passive-aggressive behavior and extra dollops of unexpected touchiness from folks. The wisest course of action is to use the valiant and deep energy of this new moon to focus on what might lurk beneath the surface. If an argument breaks out about three cents, know that no one is arguing about three cents. Think about the bigger motivations and stakes for all involved, including yourself.

Read on for your sign’s Sky Code.

Scorpio (October 22nd to November 21st)

This new moon in your sign is your new year, whether it’s close to your birthday or not. Loaded with deep intentions and resolutions, it's your moment for introspection, even as you spend a few hours on the dance floor or chug down some birthday drinks. Take-charge Mars, your sign’s CEO planet, storms into ultradiplomatic Libra and drops clues on what trouble and triumphs lie ahead. You’re looking for new ways to be assertive and gone are the days when you could employ a “take-no-prisoners” attitude. You’ll have to negotiate more, especially this week, but, fortunately, you don’t have to figure that out completely now.

Sagittarius (November 22nd to December 21st)

This watery Scorpio new moon will cool you down, Sag, and bring out more of your sensitive side. Toward the weekend, the key beneficiaries of this “cold brew” moon will be your besties and close colleagues. Make-it-happen Mars in lively Libra will empower you to take charge of lagging projects or the ill-thought-out escapades of others without your irritation showing through. You’re brimming with ideas for building up folks, especially those whose pluck matches your own. You’ll also have the liveliness to talk someone out of a tight corner while staying patient and focused.

Capricorn (December 22nd to January 20th)

It's time for you to flex your networking muscles, so don’t blow off that mixer after work. Having more folks on your side these days is a boon, and 'tis the season, so keep the momentum up with new ventures, connections, and ideas. Piping hot Mars is right on time at the top of your chart to help with that, endowing you with smoothness and keen strategies to advance your ambitions seemingly almost effortlessly. (To others, it looks that way. You know the labor that goes into it.)

Aquarius (January 21st to February 18th)

As the Scorpio moon rises high in the career sector of your heavenly chart, master warrior Mars in learned Libra suggests you need to sharpen your skills. Time to dust off plans for a conference or a class. Your arsenal for getting stuff done is amazing, but there’s still more for you to master and someone has the knowledge or insight to help you reach higher and further.

Pisces (February 19th to March 20th)

Go easy on yourself and others this week. You’re likely recalibrating and processing a lot of undercurrents of change and that has a toll on the body and mind. You may realize that there are aspects of your life, schedule, or even money you’ve sacrificed for a joint purpose and now you want to see a return. It’s healthy if you feel pissed about a lack or low level of benefit. However, use that anger as a catalyst to do better by scouting out options. Keep active, but use downtime to plan, not pout about the past.

Aries (March 21st to April 19th)

You get high points for integrity this week by keeping your eyes on the prize. It’s likely that someone will try you this week with touchy Mars in Libra, your opposite sign. In that instance, the winning action isn’t how you make the other person lose out; it’s your own display of sterling character when faced with the prospect of losing as well. In a word: class. No one else can give or take that away from you. It’s something that’s all your own and your one big job this week is to maintain it.

Taurus (April 20th to May 21st)

Midweek, you’ll discover a new tack or perspective on managing a relationship with a significant person or set of people. It might be an adjustment for you and the other person(s) at first, but stick to a plan, even if there’s not much of one at first. One key to cementing those changes will be paying attention to the details. If you’ve determined that you’re going to sweeten up a crusty co-worker with offers to pick up an extra cup of coffee for her, stay consistent and alert to what she likes. Your meticulous efforts will go a long way now.

Gemini  (May 21st to June 20th)

Your focus and energy sharpen this week, making you a dash more provocative. (Just when you or others suspected you couldn’t be more so.) Your best bet is to find something competitive yet fun to do, like a few rounds of bowling or pool. Otherwise, your boredom might turn a routine department meeting into something out of Gladiator. You might also use the stimulating power of this Scorpio new moon to transform a pastime into something that either compels you to improve at it or make more money.

Cancer  (June 21st to July 21st)

Once fast-acting Mars goes into Libra, you’ll have a hair-trigger response to anyone or anything that threatens your turf. If you need to be the company hard ass (or a goalie) this week, there’s no one tougher than you. That’s great if you have something or someone to defend, especially if there’s real danger. However, if it’s just a regular week at the office, you could mostly come off as defensive and touchy. Slow your reaction time, and take a second look to make sure what you think is happening is the case.

Leo  (July 22nd to August 21st)

As straight-shooting Mars moves into Libra, you’re ripe for roaring exactly what you think with siblings, neighbors, and colleagues. You can take the edge off the naked truth by tactfully clothing it (claws in). Overall, however, the Scorpio new moon indicates that you might be impatient about having any debate or conversations over what you think. Obviously, you know that’s not fair. If you’re not up for a give-and-take, then keep many of your thoughts to yourself. You also can put that direct Martian energy into fixing problems at home.

Virgo (August 22nd to September 21st)

Social scientists have found that 55 percent of our communication is nonverbal. Body language is an impossible thing to read only by text, and that’s perhaps why we have so many communication breakdowns these days. With your sign supervised by facts-driven Mercury, you might think facts, reason, and net results matter most when you communicate. (That means you’re wrong more than 50 percent of the time on that one, Virgo!) This Scorpio new moon is a wake-up call to communicate through subtler, more physical ways. You probably aren’t saying what you think you’re saying when you’re in front of a person.

Libra (September 22nd to October 21st)

This new moon will inspire you to make good on intentions you had last month to improve your life, starting with your finances. Identify new areas and places where you can invest the time and money you’re saving from recent purges and the reshuffle of your budget. You’ll have some help with that from strident Mars when he marches into your sign to stir things up. However, this might also prompt you to be more on edge after Thursday. It’s best to blow off some steam in energetic and active ways, like dancing or enjoying a long, autumnal hike through the park with a friend.
