Whenever a shampoo commercial pops up on our television screens, it's as if the world has come to a halt. We ooh and aah over how shiny the model's hair looks after she's sudsed up for just a few seconds. (Never mind they always seem to skip the blowout process.)
You don't need a beauty school degree to know that there's a bit more work involved behind the scenes of these ads. But with the right products and tools, you can easily achieve shiny hair at home.
In the video above, BellaSugar reporter Kirbie Johnson shares four shiny hair tips to repair dull, dry strands. First, find out what makes your hair lackluster -- harsh water and products are often the culprits. You can reverse the damage by using a clarifying treatment made out of apple cider vinegar, as well as investing in a shower filtration system that removes toxins and minerals from water.
Shampooing your hair correctly is also important. You'll want to be sure to cleanse with protein-enhanced products that contain shea butter or avocado oil. Follow up with a post-shower serum or oil that strengthens the hair and creates a smooth blowout.
Finally, spritz on a shine spray for instant luster. (Be careful not to spray too close to your head as it will get greasy and form build-up.)
