Nicole Curtis Shares Sweet Vacation Picture with 2-Year-Old Son at the Center of Custody Battle

Nicole Curtis is trading in her tool belt for flip flops as she and son Harper enjoy a Florida vacation.

The Rehab Addict star and her 33-month-old son have ditched the Detroit winter for some sunshine and drama-free family time in New Smyrna Beach, where they’ve been playing in the sand, flying kites and visiting Curtis’s grandfather. “Happy to hang with our papa who reminded me that we don’t have many years left….now you know why I needed the ice cream. Love your old people, people,” she writes on alongside a photo of her and Harper indulging in some frozen treats. The HGTV host recently lost her grandmother, who passed away two days after her 70th wedding anniversary.

The vacation comes amid an ongoing two-year legal battle over custody of Harper, which Curtis shares with the toddler’s father and her ex, Minnesota-based businessman Shane Maguire, 54.

In November, the home renovation expert revealed she was “in the process of weaning” her then-30-month-old son off breastfeeding, which has been a point of contention in what she has called a “heart-wrenching” custody case.

Maguire initially accused Curtis of continuing to breastfeed their toddler as a way to prevent him from getting time with his son. Curtis, however, denied that she ever wanted it to become a problem.

“It’s so important that children have both of their parents,” she told PEOPLE. “But me from breastfeeding my child just so he can see the dad is not right.”

While Curtis has relocated to California, the Detroit native still films Rehab Addict in the city, where she also has a business, Detroit Design. As she notes in a side-by-side Instagram post, her crew in Michigan is keeping up a renovation in-progress, while she was “#beachside.”

In another split, she shares two snowmen she and Harper made — one in the Midwest snow on Friday and another drawn in the Florida sand on Saturday. “12 degrees v 77 degrees” she notes in the caption, adding “so much talent” with a crying-laughing face.

Curtis spent several years in the Southern state years ago, when she worked as a Hooters waitress, a house cleaner, and later a real estate agent — a job that led her to home restoration and eventually, HGTV fame.
